It’s that time again!  Our 2016 ASDCA Coaches Convention and Workshops will be held on August 20 at Brophy College Prep.  Details, fees, and registration are available at http://www.joyoftournaments.com/az/convention/info.asp.  Come learn about the new year, meet with your colleagues, and have your judges and students learn about the world of Speech and Debate.

Congratulations to Phoenix Country Day School who won the ASDCA Middle School State Sweepstakes championship. Scottsdale Preparatory Academy was the runner-up team. The Arizona students of the future got a wonderful taste of what awaits them in high school. Thank you to treasurer John Wolnisty for his continued organization and support of this tournament.

This semester has flown by.  We are near the end of our in-state competitions and looking ahead to our post-season travel.

First, congratulations to our champions at the AIA State Speech and Debate Tournaments from this past weekend.  Desert Vista was the Division 1 champion, and Phoenix Country Day School was the Division 2 champion.  Our host schools, Chandler and Salpointe Catholic, were exceptional, and deserve all of our thanks for opening their campuses up to us.

Please, please, PLEASE remember that all paperwork for the NSDA Qualifier tournament is due by this THURSDAY, 3/24.  This is due to NSDA requirements that everything get submitted 7 days in advance of the qualifier.  The tournament will be held at Mountain View High School, and the link to the invitation is http://www.joyoftournaments.com/nfl/az/info.asp.  Read all of the information contained in the invitation.  This isn’t like our other tournaments, and failing to complete a form could cause your entry or entire team to get disqualified.

After a competitive first semester, a wonderful ASU Southwest Championship, and the resumption of our instate tournament season this past weekend, there are a few events coming up:

There is an AIA meeting this Wednesday.

The Bobcat Bonanza at Central High School has gone to waitlist status due to a larger entry than anticipated.  The tournament directors hope to clear the waitlist as soon as they can.  Also, remember that the Bobcat will use the February PF topic to prepare for Harvard and Berkeley.

Keep your eyes on the JOT webpage for more information about the NSDA qualifier series and the State tournaments.  The Congress qualifier is on 2/27, so watch out for more information soon.

If you are attending the Division 1 Winter Trophy tournament at ASU tomorrow, please note the following registration locations.  This is a slight change from years past:

All Congressional debate will take place in the BA building at the south end of Cady Mall.

Registration will be in room BA 241

Houses will be in rooms BA 257, BA 258 or BA 265

Debate registration will take place in the SS building courtyard in the afternoon.  There will not be any registration at SS in the morning.

The Winter Trophy tournaments are coming up soon.  Division 1 will be hosted by ASU and Division 2 will be hosted by Paradise Valley High School.  Thank you to Adam Symonds and Scott Johnson for stepping up as site hosts once again.  Winter Trophy will take place on December 4-5, 2016, and registration websites are located at http://www.joyoftournaments.com/az.  They’ll be up soon.

Also, remember that the Brophy tournament is this weekend, Red Mountain is next weekend, and then McClintock, Mountain View, and Dobson are coming up soon after.  Get your paperwork together and register for these competitions.  Good luck and see you at the tournaments!
