Our FLA Winter Trophy tournament is upon us. Please make sure that you are signed up through www.joyoftournaments.com/az and that you have fulfilled your judging requirements. Feel free to bring more judges than you need, particularly if they are unaffiliated. Good luck to everyone, and I hope you have fun this weekend, wherever you may be competing.
What a semester so far! There are a few important things coming up. If you haven’t checked out the ASU Southwest Championship invitation, do so. They have a discount on school base fees if you get your payment (or purchase order) in by December first. In addition, the FLA Winter Trophy tournaments are coming up fast. Make sure you have paid your FLA dues. All tournament information can be found on the Joy of Tournaments site.
The Mountain View Toro Country Classic invitation is up and ready for registration. The Classic is on November 4-5 and will feature NIETOC bids, as well as a Congressional Debate Supersession.
The Glendale Community College tournament is this weekend. Make sure to read the invitation if you are planning on going. This tournament is a bit different from what we are used to.
The DV Desert Sun Invitational is in a few weeks, and will feature debate TOC bids.
Results have been posted for the Southwest Speech and Debate Institute Tournament. Make sure to get those points entered into NFL to get your team started on the right foot this year.
The Glendale Community College tournament registration is open and ready to go. You can find it at: http://www.joyoftournaments.com/az/gcc/info.asp. Also, the first AIA State Speech and Debate Advisory Committee meeting of the year is on September 28th. Send any potential agenda items to Kevin Berlat. The first Invitations for the 2011/2012 year are posted. The Coaches Convention and Practice Tournament will be held on September 17. The Southwest Speech and Debate Institute Tournament will be held on September 23-24. The Desert Sun Invitational at Desert Vista will be held on October 14-15. Make sure to read the tournament invitations carefully. The Desert Sun Invitational has changed to a Debate/Congress only tournament.

It is that time again. The website for the 2011 Forensic League of Arizona Coaches Convention is live. The convention will be held on Saturday, September 17th at Horizon High School. Register for the convention, check out the proposals we need to debate and discuss, and provide your directory information.
In addition, we will hold a practice tournament for any students who want to get a few rounds of competition under their belt. The tournament can be found at www.joyoftournaments.com/az/convention-cd.

As we are gearing up for the season, a couple of events have changed their scheduled dates. The Desert Vista Tournament will now be on October 14-15, and Red Mountian will hold their tournament on January 6-7, 2012.
The list of Debate Tournament of Champions bid tournaments has been released. There are several opportunities for students to earn bids inside the state of Arizona. The following bids are available for the different debate events:
Congressional Debate: ASU (top 6)
Policy Debate: ASU (Finals)
Lincoln-Douglas: Desert Vista (Finals)
Public Forum: ASU AND Desert Vista (Quarterfinals)
The National Individual Events Tournament of Champions (NIETOC) has published their list of bid tournaments for the 2011-2012 school year. There will be 4 bid tournaments in Arizona:
October 7-8 – The Desert Sun Invitational at Desert Vista High School
November 4-5 – The Toro Country Classic at Mountain View High School
January 19-21 – The Southwest Championship at Arizona State University
February 3-4 – The Bobcat Bonanza at Central High School

After three extremely busy weeks, Arizona has our slate of National Qualifiers and our 2011 State Champions! Lists of Qualifiers and Champions will be posted here shortly. In the meantime, begin thinking about the 2011-2012 calendar. If you wish to host a tournament next season, make sure that you have filled out the appropriate sanctioning form, located here. Return it to Kevin Berlat by April 1 so that the AIASSDAC can compile the calendar during the meeting on April 13th.
